The Red Admiral (Vanessa atalanta) is a well-known colorful butterfly, found in temperate Europe, Asia and North America. In North America, the Red Admiral generally has two broods from March through October. Southern migrants must recolonize most of North America each spring, but this species over-winters in south Texas. The caterpillar feeds on nettles, and the adult drinks from flowering plants like the Buddleia commonly known as the Butterfly Bush, it is a genus of flowering plants and overripe fruit.
