Grizzly Bear

1/640s at f8.0, ISO:800, Canon Mark III 1Ds w/800mm

The Grizzly is classified as a Brown Bear subspecies, Ursus Arctos Horribilis. The term brown bear is commonly used to refer to the members of this subspecies found in coastal areas where salmon is the primary food source, but in fact, these are just coastal grizzlies. Grizzles are actually omnivores since their diet consists of both plants and animals. Many people think bears are short-sighted, but this is not correct; experiments have shown bears have keen eyesight along with excellent hearing and smell. At the moment the image was made, the bear was using his 3 most powerful senses to find the location for his next meal.
